In this episode:

  • File selection dialog box
  • Read external text document
  • Create comps

Welcome to episode 16 of the After Effects ExtendScript Training series. This week we are gonna leap a little bit outside of After Effects with our code and create a full script that will allow you to open a tab delimited text document and import the text in that document as text layers.

We will be building a mock lower third with a person’s name and job title. This will require a series of functions to do each of our tasks in this script. By creating these functions, it will help organize our code, streamline our process, and allow for easy reuse of an individual task.

Separate functions to read a text document, create comps, parse our text data, and to create customized text layers with specified properties will also be needed. These will cover areas like font size, font, color, etc…

We have much to go over in this two part episode, so let’s get to it.
